Marriage records of Itawamba County, MS, indicates George Hanover McNutt married Sarah Ann McCollough on 30 Jan 1851. George, a Cumberland Presbyterian Minister is buried at Pleasant Hill Methodist Church Cemetery located six miles south of Iuka.
A memorial plate made for the church has the following inscription: "Pleasant Hill Church was built about 1875 as a Methodist Protestant Church. The first pastor was the Rev. Lemuel J. Hubbard. The original building stood for 17 years until it was replaced in 1905 by the present structure. The first marked burial was made there on 15 Nov 1851."
This grave is for George Hanover McNutt. His wife Sarah Ann McNutt, who died 15 Feb 1875, is buried next to him. Next to his grave is that of Nancy McNutt, 13th child of William Thomas McNutt, who was born 30 Aug 1893, and lived only five weeks.
- (Medical):He was in the McNutt Creek bottom looking for his lost sheep on a cold November day in 1851. He developed pneumonia from exposure and died an untimely death at the age of about twenty-eight years, two months before his only son, William Thomas McNutt was born.
