- Maxine graduated from McAlester High School in 1940 as class Salutatorian and attended East Central University, Eastern Oklahoma State College and Tulsa University. She worked as a bookkeeper for the Pittsburg County Treasurers Office from 1940 to 1950 and worked as an accountant for PSO until 1964. She was a registered public accountant from 1965 until 1972. In 1997 she wrote an article recalling streetcar service in McAlester that was published in the Tulsa World. In 1999 she became a member of the McAlester First Baptist Church. She was a resident of the Heartland Care Center for 25 years. She died in McAlester at the age of 81. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Mayfield; her son, Kevin Mayfield; her parents, Richard and Emma Elliott; a brother, Richard E. Elliott; her sisters, Irene Scott, Margaret Bee and Edna Perdue, and a nephew, David Bee.
